The Sea of Snot
(this song was inspired by the combination of
some bizarre electronic sound effects, an obsession
with nasal fluids, and a profound lack of sleep)

LYRICS

What a strange place to be
sailing on that snotty sea
passing by the barbaloot tree
as the farbs came off the wall

As we sailed into Bugger Bay
the space barnacles came by our way
and ate up all the plives and knates
but left the sporks and foons

And just when we thought they were gone
bugger-breathing barbaloots came along
hanging from bugger-bubbles in the air
which they had blown through their barbaloot hair

What a strange place to be
sailing on that snotty sea
passing by the barbaloot tree
as the farbs came off the wall

We were afraid we would be late
so we sailed through the Stringy-Bugger Straits
and then we dined on catgut gaggies
and raw-egg bandwiches wrapped in saggies

And as we passed by the snot-whales
the bugger-breathing dragon that blew in our sails
found tairs and chables on his tails
where the farbs had left their tribble-trails

What a strange place to be
sailing on that snotty sea
passing by the barbaloot tree
as the farbs came off the wall

this does not compute
this does not compute
this does not compute

NOTES

During my college years, my friend Rich missed the bus one day, so he stayed overnight at my house. Late that night, when we were tired and giddy, he became mesmerized by some strange sound effects I had synthesized. Laying on the floor with headphones on, he began to imagine them as the sounds of a distant planet where all the oceans consisted of snot! I quickly churned out lyrics as he crafted some hilarious guitar chords. You know how when you're sleep-deprived, everything seems funny? We laughed hysterically until my mom got mad for being kept awake. The next morning between classes, we stunned our friends with our new masterpiece ... they never forgave us. It was great! Whenever we wanted to be left alone, we simply had to sing this song!

About a year later, me and Allan recorded it using two tracks, Rich's noisy flanger (we twisted it's knobs back and forth during the recording to vary the effect), and the original sound effects that had started the whole thing (plus some new "snot-whale" noises). Mom got mad at me again for wasting so much time.
