New Year's Eve SUSHI 2007 !

We "took the show on the road" this year and had our New Year's Eve Sushi party
in Stockton, CA, in order to be an encouragement to Mom (who has been ill) and
have her surrounded by family and friends. Here are some photos (courtesy of my
sister Melody) showing the results of our labors!

Here is our spread of sushi offerings. We put out the basics first.  Then, while people are working on this, we additionally create specialty items, including rolls with tempura shrimp and soft shell crab.

Here you can see "Kappa Maki" (cucumber) rolls, "Sashimi Nigiri" pieces (with raw fish), and California rolls (towards the back).

"Sashimi" is the Japanese name for raw fish, and "Nigiri" is the Japanese name for this kind of sushi (where a finger-sized chunk of rice has some tasty item draped over the top.  Here we have salmon, yellowtail tuna ("Hamachi"), and Makerel.

Here are more "Nigiri" items, but these are all cooked.  We have "Ebi" shrimps, "Kani" (imitation crab) sticks, and "Tamago", which is a sweetened omelette-style egg.

A close-up of the "Kappa Maki" (cucumber) rolls.  By the way, one of my favorite fragrances is the smell of really fresh "Kappa Maki" rolls, it is a sign of good quality in your sushi!

It just wouldn't be New Year's Eve without a few fireworks!
